VE Day – celebrate at home

Here’s a little background to share with younger generations, about what happened 75 years ago today:

VE Day: Peace In Europe | History Uncovered

As we approach the 75th anniversary of VE Day, here are nine things you may not know about its impact and significance.

While many of the VE Day 75th Anniversary commemorations have sadly had to be cancelled there are still lots of ways to mark the occasion.

If there’s a noticeable bunting shortage in your windows here’s how you can make your own:

BBC – Great British Bunting

On Friday 8 May 2020 Britain will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day when the guns fell silent at the end of war in Europe. Due to the coronavirus restrictions most VE Day 75 events and street parties have had to be cancelled or postponed but we still want you to be able to mark the occasion, share your pride in our country and honour the men and women of WW2.

And it could be very useful decoration for a stay at home party:

Plan your VE Day party – VE Day 75

The weekend of May 8th – 10th is the weekend to commemorate and celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of the war in Europe. To help you prepare your day, we’ve collated a party pack to get you started while you #StayHomeSaveLives. Venue First things first, you need a venue.

And what’s a party without some dancing?

VE Day 75

Friday 8 May 2020 marks 75 years since Nazi Germany’s formal surrender at the end of the Second World War. On VE (Victory in Europe) Day in 1945, millions took to the streets to celebrate peace after years of devastating war.

After all that you might just want a nice sit down with a good book. We’ve got a wide selection of ebooks available to download via our catalogue telling stories of wartime triumph and tragedy. Head over to our online catalogue to see our selection.
