This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (18 – 24 May) and the topic for this year is kindness. The theme has been chosen to reflect the importance of protecting our mental health as we cope with and recover from the Coronavirus pandemic as a society.
Our advice to anyone self-isolating who needs support, is to ask for help from family, friends, neighbours and trusted local groups. For anyone who doesn’t have someone they can call on for help and you live in Thirsk or one of its villages, please ring Community Works on 01845 523115 for help with shopping, prescriptions, caring for pets and having someone to talk to. If you live in a different area call NYCC on 01609 780780 Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm.
More than four in five people are worried about the effect that the Covid-19 pandemic is having on their life, with over half (53.1%) saying it was affecting their wellbeing and nearly half (46.9%) reporting high levels of anxiety.
Reading is more important than ever during this difficult and unsettling time. The Reading Well collection from the Reading Agency supports health and wellbeing using specially selected books recommended by health experts, as well as people with lived experience of mental health conditions.
